DIRECTORIES

1. OPEN DIRECTORY PROJECT
Starting with a directory is advisable when you want an overview of a topic. It is good to use a directory when you either have a broad topic or one with no distinctive terms or phrases.You may want to use one when you want an expert's advise on the best websites on a topic or when a search engine turns up far too many low-content pages.

2. INTERNET PUBLIC LIBRARY
This directory maintained at the University of Michigan School of Information is staffed by professional librarians to respond to reference questions, creates web resources, and evaluates and categorizes resources on the Internet.

SEARCH ENGINES

1. Google
This is a great place to start research. This site is user friendly. For credible sources, you may want to limit your search to government or educational domains. Start by keeping your search broad and gradually narrowing your topic. Don't forget to use the Boolean search logic. Check the "help" page for advanced searches.

2. Teen Hoopla
This site is very good for a wide range of interest topics from high school topics to research to homework help sites.

3. Vivisimo
